Telikom National Soccer League

 

Overview

The National Soccer League (NSL) is Papua New Guinea's (PNG) new semi-professional league just introduce in 2006.  It is appreviated as "NSL" and is now the highest level of competition in football in the country. NSL was launched at the LFA Park in Lae on the 3rd September 2006 where the first match of NSL was played on that date. This date became the birth date of NSL in PNG. During the launch an International friendly match was played between a PNG president 11 select versue an Under 20 team from the Solomons.

Message by NSL Chairman - Mr. John Kapi Natto

" On behalf of the National Soccer League Board I express my wormest greetings to the sporting public on this significant occassion where football development in PNG has achieved an historical milestone - a semi professional football competition.

The code in this country has achieved an exiting stage with much progress made in a short period of time. The launching of the NSL competion is set to provide a quality spectacle with close matches, large crowns and plenty of high quality football in PNG.

Our motto of this semi-professional competition is "KICK HIGHER" and that is what Papua New Guinea Football Association intend to ensure that NSL takes the level of football played in the country to a higher level.

Lae notably known for its extensive and rich football history will provide the stage for the launching which will feature an opening ceremony followed by a friendly international match between the PNG's President 11 and the Solomon Islands Under 20 team as certain raiser for the first NSL match between PRK Souths United FC and TL Blue Kumuls FC. The other three teams in the competition are Gelle Hills FC, AK Madang Fox FC and WFD Momads.

Telikom PNG, the country's largest and the leading communication company will own the naming right of the NSL competition 2007. The Competition will be call the Telikom NSL Cup.

NSL competition - 2007/2008

2007 NSL competition is the second year after the birth of NSL in PNG which is starting on the 3rd November 2007.

The number of franchise clubs have increased to 6 team from 5 teams in 2006. The clubs that will compete the 2007 NSL competition are as follows;
