National Soccer League Development Manager, Chris Brown said in an interview at the PNGFA office last Thursday that the semi- professional competition would begin mid- January and will run for four months only.
He said it would be a condensed competition format and scheduling, meaning that the teams would alternate between playing one and two games every other week.
This would mean that teams will have to play a mid- week game to complete the season by the end of April as planned.
Mr. Brown said he was hoping for six team competition in the next Telikom NSL competition, and a four team competition in the Port Moresby and Lae leg of the Ox & Palm Women’s competition. Depending on the number of expressions of interest submitted from the franchise clubs, Brown estimated a maximum of six teams for next year’s competition.
The winner for the men’s competition would pick up K60, 000.00 prize money, the runners-up K25, 000.00 while third place gets K15, 000.00 and team finishing fourth walks away with K10, 000.00.
The women’s prize money will still remain the same from last season with K10, 000.00 to be the winner of the competition while runners-up get K8, 000.00.
Two Port Moresby based teams, Hekari United and Eastern Stars have submitted their Expression Of Interest forms but they have to wait to formalise their teams.
