David Charles, the 27 year old from Hula and Milne Bay Province was recognised and nominated to be a FIFA Assistant Referee by PNGFA. He started his career as a junior match official in the local competition and advanced from there to officiate in OFC sanctioned tournaments and championships overseas.
He is also recognised by FIFA and has officiated in the Under 17 FIFA World Cup in Mexico, and recently, the Men’s Qualifiers in New Zealand. The more David is participating in officiating, his level of performance is improving.
He is been tasked to officiate this month which he will be travelling to Solomon Islands for the Oceania Football Confederation Men’s Nations Cup, the first stage to the FIFA Club World Cup in Brazil next year.
Through his commitment to football in the country, and the time he puts into his physical training has paid off when he was nominated for Technical Official of the Year in the SP Sports Awards, against two other nominees. He took out the award he deserved in the presence of his supportive father.
Being a young Match official for the code of football, David Charles has a long way to go in his career and PNGFA are very proud of him and would like to congratulate him on being the recipient of the Technical Official of the Year award at the SP Sports Awards night on the weekend.
