Hekari United FC has extended its lead at the top of the Telikom National Soccer League ladder after thrashing second placed Besta United 3-0 in the double header held over the weekend in Lae.
With three points, the defending champions are well clear of Besta on 28 points or by eight points from PNG Football Academy based team, Besta United.
At the foot of the table, Petro Souths FC defeated Tukoko Uni yesterday to trail last on six points, still a point behind Tukoko on seven points in the second match of the double header at the Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium on Saturday.
At the Bisini oval on Saturday, Gigira Laitepo defeated visiting MMJV Bulolo United 3-1 to remain a chance of chasing leaders Hekari United. Bulolo apprears to have a better start in the opening half with good attacking moves. Despite Bulolo’s dominance, Central took their cool with a snail’s pace start and moved to overdrive as the game wore one.
Central defense was solid led by their goalkeeper Joey Kala who ward of several shots at the goalmouth.
Central left wing striker Harold Demo broke the deadlock in the second half shot after running though a cross from Nathaniel Lepani. Clement Leka pulled one back for Bulolo five minutes from full time while his teammate Mathew Yang was sent off the field for dangerous tackle inside the box.
Lepani took the opportunity with open arms and sealed the result for his team with a coolly taken free kick to win comfortable.
