Big weekend of semi finals ahead

The dates of the semi finals have been finalized with the semi finals on the 1st of October while the grand final will be played on the 8th October 2011. The winners of the semi finals will be required to attend the finals in Lae, Home of the Besta Tin fish, and the major sponsor of the tournament.

The men’s semi finals play – off will be played in Lae and Port Moresby respectively, where Highlands representatives, Mt. Hagen will take on Southern Region’s PSSA. The New Guinea Islands will be represented by Bougainville to take on Lae Football Association in Lae.

In the women’s semis, Team Wabag, representing the Highlands will play Team PSSA in Port Moresby while LFA, representing the Momase region, will take on Kimbe from the Islands region in Lae this weekend.

Bougainville, mostly consisting of young players, will be coached and mentored by 2010 PNG Games coach Erickson Tuana. Bougainville Football Association is looking at using Besta FA Cup to expose its young talents when they take on LFA in Lae over the weekend. Lae Football Association, which is the top Team for the Momase Region, will be the hot favorite during the games when they face the young guns from Bougainville.

Southern Region’s PSSA will be under the control of master minder of NCD PSSA midfielder, Ken Gule. The return of NCD PSSA’s goalkeeper, Paul Isorua from a long spell brings on new face and new blood. The combination of a seasoned goalkeeper and experienced midfielder should give a leading edge to the Southern Regional Team. Paul proved himself fit to be in the selection after playing for Masters in the NCD PSSA competition. So far the training has been good for the past couple of weeks and are ready to challenge the boys from Mt. Hagen.
