President of Madang Soccer Association, Siegfred Beschel said the tournament, which was originally scheduled for August 25-30, was moved to September because the Momase association executives will be in Bougainville this month for the opening of the Papua New Guinea Football Association’s Football Academy in Bougainville.
He said the regional tournament has attracted 20 male and 10 female teams to find a champion to represent Momase at the 2014 Besta National Soccer Challenge in Lae in September,
Lae won the Besta Cup in 2011 and 2012, while Port Moresby Soccer Association won the title last year after returning to the PNGFA fold, having. PMSA qualified for this year’s challenge after winning the Southern leg in Higatu, Oro.
Meanwhile, the local organising committee in Madang has called for teams to register male and female teams. Additionally, non-affiliated teams are to deposit K500 into the Madang Soccer Association account at BSP Madang branch – account number: 1000172987; and complete the registration forms.
