Former USA international Lisa Cole will be the head coach and will be assisted by Margaret Aka.
Both are tasked to prepare the best team for next year’s FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Port Moresby.
Cole said their focus right now was to assess and evaluate performances from the training sessions and select 36 players, who would assemble in February for a training camp.
Following that the final 22-member team will be selected for the World Cup.
Cole said the four U-20 players who are part of the senior women team – Marie Kaipu, Yvonne Gabong, Ramona Padio and Lace Kunei – would also be part of the wider squad for the training camp.
“The goal of this first period of training is to implement the standards that we require to pick the players who we think should be the main focus of our preparation towards the February camp,” Cole says.
“I am excited by the talent we have in the squad, they have the passion for the game and are eager to learn.
“We want players who can commit themselves to training full-time to adopt a professional approach to be competitive, as we don’t want cricket scores against the European opponents,” she adds.
