FC POM will have to wait another long year again for Telikom National Soccer League season 2016-2017 after going down to a feisty Erema FC 2-1 in the last round of the Conference stage on Saturday.
Erema’s seasoned campaigner Tau Winnie baffled FC POM fans when he dribbled past the FC POM defenders in skipper Roland Bala and goal-keeper Charles Lepani to score and take a daunting lead at 1-0.
It was sadly not the day for young Nathan James who had three golden opportunities but missed them all.
His first opportunity came when he rounded out back to receive a pass from John Robert but instead of blasting it in, he poked it a bit too far and Erema Goal-keeper Ben Kaiah was ever ready to pick up the slack.
His second opportunity came from Bala who ripped one through for Kaiah to deflect and land at James feet but missed again.
Bala sensing his team needed that extra lift headed in a cross from John Robert to level up.
In the second half when Erema defender Anthony Pepea amidst a flurry of hands and feet barged his way through and headed the ball in to send his team into raptures.
