Next on the agenda for the Australian is guiding that same team to their fourth gold medal in the forthcoming Pacific Games and also earn a place in the Olympic Qualifiers.
With that build-up the team will do an eighteen day tour of SE Asia which includes 4 International fixtures, 2 against Singapore National team and 2 against Thailand National team who are currently on a European tour in their preparations for the 2015 Woman’s World Cup in Canada.
Coach Philips said this is an opportunity to play any team competing at that level will be a magnificent challenge especially with Thailand who are well advanced in their preparation for Canada so this is a big opportunity after our disappointment of losing to New Zealand to gain a World Cup spot.
He said the team’s preparations are paramount to produce Gold at the Pacific Games and success here is doubly important with the winner to play home and away series vs New Zealand to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.
“This Asian Tour is also a chance to regain our focus and refine our technical and tactical qualities while at the same time a chance for a couple of new faces (yet to be named) to impress and gain place in the final Pacific Games squad.” said Philips.
“Thanks to the generous support of the PNG Olympic Committee and the PNGFA preparations for the 2015 July Pacific Games will be unprecedented.”
The team is also seeking support from corporate sponsors and business houses to support the team in their build up towards defending their title as the Queen of the Pacific in women’s football.
The 21 women squad will leave for Singapore on the 28th of February played Singapore on the 4th and 6th March then depart Singapore to Bangkok on the 7th March.
