Big weekend for Pom residence

Bomana will come alive with the main game heightens with the cracker of the second round opener between second and third place Lae City Dwellers and FC Port Moresby on Saturday at 2:00 pm.

Madang will be on bye this weekend while Champions Hekari United returning from a tour from Solomon Islands with mixed-bag of results, going down to OFC Champions League rivals Western United 3-0 and a lull 2-2 draw against the national U23 team Solympic – they will release their frustration on an out of sorts Oro.

With that in mind, the visitors from Lae must win to stay in touch as they are just a point behind.

With the Dwellers spending a week in Port Moresby for their next outing this weekend, skipper Raymond Gunemba believes it will strengthen their resolve to push their city counterparts to the limit.

The 4-0 win over Oro is a result of their team, dominated by newcomers at this level working hard to be consistent performers, said Gunemba.

This round of matches are billed as matches that will set the tone for a hectic round two of the Telikom sponsored semi-professional competition, as teams jostle for the run home.

With the fourth placed Madang on a bye, third-placed FC Port Moresby would like nothing better than to get match winning points to steer clear from the latter.

And over in Lae, PNGFA development team Besta PNG United must over-come their recent poor form to add to Admiralty’s woes to have any chance of staying in the hunt.

Besta PNG is currently on fifth spot on the ladder and will have to win this match to push them up when they face Hekari United on Wednesday.

Hekari United who will be away this weekend for their O- League match against Auckland City this weekend and will return after the weekend to play their match against Besta in the midweek game.

They have so far won most of their games and recently drew with Eastern Stars in the Round 5 match. They are currently leading with ten points and are looking strong as always in their games which Besta United, consisting of mostly new players will have to work hard for this match.

The postponed match of Round 4 between MMJV Bulolo United and Besta PNG United were played yesterday, where Besta United defeated Bulolo on Tuesday by 1-0.

Besta have now moved up after collecting three points to add to their current points ladder of 3. They have jumped onto the third spot with 6 points after Gigira Laitepo who is on second spot.
