Besta FA Cup dates set

Teams confirmed are: Lahi (men and women) LFA (men and women), Wau (men and women); Maprik (men); Vanimo Urban (men); Ramu Sugar (men and women).

CENTRAL’s Koupa Soccer Association (KSA) will host the Southern Region Besta FA Cup tournament from the 17-20 August.

Association president Morea Vavine was grateful for the opportunity to stage such a high profile sporting event in his Rigo coastal village of Kaparoko.

The Southern Region Besta Cup will run for four days and will feature at least seven affiliates from within Koupa Soccer Association and the rest to be made up by NCD Public Servants Soccer Association, Port Moresby Soccer Association, Higaturu Soccer Association (Oro), Tabubil Soccer Association (Western), Hekari Soccer Association (SHP) and Lower Sogeri Soccer Association (Central).

Vavine said hosts Koupa would field two sides — its senior team and a development side — while others include Hekari Central Cup finalists Papaka and Kaloas, as well as a team each from the district’s three local level government areas of Rigo Coast, Rigo Central and Rigo Inland.

“I want to thank PNGFA for giving Koupa the opportunity to host the Besta regional tournament.

“With the backing of member affiliates, we aim to deliver a competition everyone can be proud of,” Vavine said.

“I urge Rigo leaders and businessmen for their support in cash or kind as it’s the first for a PNGFA-sanctioned tournament to be staged in our district which is a significant achievement.”

Other two regions are set to start at their respective venues. The Highlands Region will host the event at Kundiawa in Simbu province from the 24-27 August while New Guinea Islands regional championships will be held at Arawa in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville on the 25-28 on the same month.

PNGFA competitions manager Simon Koima urged all associate and fully pledge members who are willing to participate must have a men and a women team.

“Member associations without active competition running are not eligible for the tournament and are not allowed to send teams.”

He said those willing to participate must seek advice from respective MA’s president including the two newly province of Jiwaka and Hela but must comply with all requirements as an associate members.
