“Keep violence out of sport” was the message sports men and women from Telikom PNG’s Managing Director, Peter Loko as he handed the cheque of K250,000 to National Soccer League at Telikom Rumana yesterday.
Since Telikom’s partnership began with the National Soccer League in 2007, a total of K750,000 has been given in cash and kind by the telecommunication company. Mr Loko said Telikom’s continued support of the NSL since its initial establishment had been fruitful resulting in the raised standard of soccer at the semi-professional level.
“An example of this being the qualification of Hekari United who represented not only the country but Oceania region for the first time to the FIFA Club World Cup in Abu Dhabi late last year.
He said the breakup of the package would be K205,000 in cash while K45,000 would be in Telikom’s products which the National Soccer League could sell to help the league. NSL Chairman, John Kapi Natto thanked Telikom for supporting NSL for the fourth year now.
Telikom has come in the right time,” said Kapi Natto. The semi finals begins this weekend with four teams to play. The winner of the two games will qualify to go against each other in the grand final, scheduled to take place the following weekend.
