BSP Corporate Banking General Manager presents K50, 000.00 cheque to Men’s National team

This year’s OFC Men’s Nations Cup will be hosted in Honiara, Solomon Islands this year from 1-10 June with eight countries in the Oceania Region vying for a spot in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

As major sponsor getting the naming rights for the PNG National Men’s football team, the banking company has also given a cheque of K50, 000.00 to the team which was recieved by PNGFA Senior Vice President, Mr. John Kapi Natto in the presence of team members and the media personnel yesterday afternoon at the Hubert Murray Stadium cricket field in Port Moresby.

The assistance gave the bank the naming right to be known as PNG Kundu. Apart from the financial support, sports bags, t-shirts, waterbottles, bucket hats, balls and sunglasses were given to PNG Kundu team.

“BSP is committed to not only supporting local community but also supporting and encouraging sports in the country, particularly soccer. We are proud to be the sponsors of the national soccer team in their endeaviours” Mr Beswick said during the presentation ceremony yesterday.

The boys have been in camp for the last two and a half weeks at the football academy in Lae return to Port Moresby on Sunday. They have been also training for two days here for two days and will depart for Gold Coast tomorrow afternoon for their lead up matches and leave for Honiara on the 29th May.

“We are grateful for the support BSP has given and PNG Football Association would like to announce the team as PNG Kundu.The team will be competing against Fiji, New Zealand and the host Solomon Islands in pool B which they will be playing host on Saturday at 3pm. ” It will be tough against three other strong teams in the region and we are confident the boys will give their best and bring back pride for our football fans in the country when they return after the tournament.” Mr. Kapi Natto said.

The four highest-placed teams from the second stage will then contest stage three of World Cup qualifying – a round-robin, home-and-away play-off series. The matches are foreseen to take place between 7 September 2012 and 26 March 2013 in FIFA windows.
