Olympic dream within reach

And the Papua New Guinea women’s soccer team are looking to up the tempo against the favourites New Zealand to book the spot to Rio.

But so far they look to be on track after defending their gold medal winning form in the recent concluded Pacific Games against New Caledonia.

The new look team coached by Gary Philips and captained by Deslyn Siniu believe they have a strong all round team that has the ability to take the team all the way.

PNG Football Association president David Chung, said it would be a home-and-away qualifying series for the PNG women soccer team, and they needed everyone’s support.

“Our women are now preparing the next level which is the Olympic qualifying with New Zealand for the only Oceania spot.

“We need every everyone’s support and hopefully get the PNG National Olympic to support the team as well,”

Already host Brazil, Colombia (COPA America), France, Germany (UEFA) have confirmed for the World Cup while the Oceania spot will be contested by New Zealand and PNG.

In the men’s Rio 2016, Fiji won the right to represent Oceania after New Zealand was found to have fielded an ineligible player.

Men’s teams already confirmed for Rio now are Brazil (host), Argentina, Denmark, Germany, Portugal and Sweden.
