Women’s National Soccer League (WNSL) newcomers Mungkas Football Club have remained undefeated after beating Hekari Wantoks 3-1 in their second round encounter in Port Moresby.
In the other matches Uni Inter FC and VATS Yamaros settled for a nil all draw in Port Moresby while in Lae, Poro FC defeated Wau FC by five points to one and Bara defeated PNG Power by a one nil score line.
Mungkas came out very energetic from the start of the match and this resulted in their opening goal which came in the 2nd minute when Ramona Morris chipped the ball from the fringe of the penalty box over the head of Hekari goalkeeper Fiona Ben who had wondered out of her goal mouth.
Mungkas forward Fatima Rama had a goal disallowed in the 15th minute after the linesmen ruled her offside.
Then just a minute after the goal was disallowed, Rama managed to put pressure on Ben while she was in the process of grabbing a high ball which she dropped allowing Morris to comfortably net her second goal of the match.
Hekari, sensing an upset picked up the tempo and managed to find a goal in the 31st minute thanks to a well taken chip by Ara Midi which left Mungkas goalkeeper Kiwi Tova rooted to the ground as she watched the ball sail into the net.
Hekari then put on a constant offensive surge but the Mungkas backline led by team captain Cathy Horris, Esther Kenasti and Dorcas Sesevo were equal to the task and held them off.
Rama sealed the match for her team with a great strike in the second last minute of extra time to give Mungkas its undefeated run so far in the competition.
