Just Play completes four weeks with Morata kids

Football offers opportunities for play and self-expression, beneficial especially for the young with few other opportunities in their lives.

Children from the Morata suburb in the city turned up in a good number last week to be part of the Just Play community activities and games at the Sir John Guise Stadium to complete the last of the four weeks of the community concept. Conducted by the community representative and supervised by the Just Play Development Officer, the children went through running, dribbling, shooting and passing skills.

Each of the children took turns in being part of the football drills to start the programme and ending the session of small sided games where the happy kids were put into teams to play freely using the passing, shooting and dribbling skills to score goals.

Just Play is now targeting children at community level to be part of the fun activities through learning football skills. Importantly, learn to deal effectively with social issues affecting them on a daily basis.

During the four weeks the kids are over excited and have the eagerness to learn more, kids also show signs of respect at home and exercise good citizenship in their community.

After the four weeks Morata community will meet other children from the Just Play participating schools during the Just Play Festival expected at the end of this month.

‘Just Play’ is designed for children aged 6-12 and is based around structured activity programmes as well as the distribution of equipment packs containing balls, cones, bibs, activity manuals and other resources that enable children to play football at any time and in any situation.
