Cole: Trial matches to evaluate players

The first match was played on Friday which saw the COE boys beat the women’s 4-1 and on Saturday the boys again beat the ladies 2-0.

PNG U-20 women’s coach Lisa Cole said the COE boys where well coached and the games gave us another opportunity for us to evaluate players.

“We got better from game to game and I was very pleased with the first half of yesterday’s game.

Fitness is an issue with the girls as we just where not able to keep playing at the level we needed but the girls are working hard, improving everyday. It’s a process and we are off to a good start,” said Cole.

Cole said they will have another two trial matches on Wednesday and Friday with the senior women’s.

The senior women’s will be in camp and train with the U20’s, with these senior players in camp we can bring up the level of training and hopefully get the U20 players to recognize that they have another level in them if they are willing to push past being uncomfortable, Cole said.

“We are looking at more trial matches so that we can evaluate each player’s mentality with the ability to take the coaching and apply it in the games.

I have a couple scouting trips planed in April to look at players that have been recommended so we are still looking but we do have a core that is coming together.” Cole concluded.
