City United women got off to a bad start in the A- League match played on Wednesday in the NCD Public Servants Soccer clash against Wantoks, losing 4-0 at at the Public Administration grounds on Saturday.
The women in black had all their star players on call but failed to find the net first when Wantoks scored the opener in the 11th minute through striker, Maggie Weva with her classic shot from the 18 yards. Wantoks, on the other hand, were able to establish and hold their opponents on several occasions but that did not make much difference to the Wantoks side.
Attempts after attempts, City United tried to score the equalizer was not coming easy as expected and resulted in Wantok’s Wendy Paraia extending their lead eight minutes later with a brilliant skilful individual ball work with the keeper. The City struggled as Wantoks took possession of the ball and City kept missing out on taking control of it.
Towards the half time break, Wantoks kept their team spirit high producing good football performance and made sure their opponents failed to break through their backline every time as the score remained the same in Wantoks favour when they went into shed 2 nil.
City’s hopes of winning the game came to an end as their team work was not in order in the midfield to feed their strikers as Wantoks took advantage of that and kept pressuring them.
With City’s unsuccessful attempts Wantok’s Maggie Wewa kept her team’s spirit high with her second goal of the afternoon to put her side in front 41 minutes towards full time. Lynette Bito of Wantoks Utd sealed the result from a brilliant cross from team mate Wendy Paraia as the referee blew the whistle for fulltime.
