This programme will provide opportunities for greater all round development with various pathways for players to become both successful in football and life.
I conjunction with OFC and the Asia Pacific Football Academy the programme will commence in Lae in due course and extend to Port Moresby later in the year.
PNGFA have appointed Mentor Coach Mike Keeney who will assist with the supervision of the programmes as well as mentoring elite coaches within the PNGFA structure.
“For me, the position here with OFC and PNGFA is a huge honor. Working as Technical Advisor and Coach Mentor for PNGFA is a great opportunity to be involved in the development of football throughout the country. “said Keeney.
“Working closely with the coaches to help introduce them to maybe new and different coaching methods with help the players in PNG to see what else is done in other parts of the world. That in turn can help the players grow and improve at the game of football.
The long term plan is to be able to provide coaching education to the staff members and other coaches to help improve the overall quality of football in PNG from the youth through to the senior level”
The aims of the National academy will be to develop various pathways to players to become successful in life. Maybe as professional footballers but also giving them the opportunity to continue with their school education too.
I know that this is a long term project and it will continue to grow and change as needed. But for me I must say that it is such a huge honor to me working here with OFC and PNGFA. I am really looking forward to getting to know the people of PNG and I look forward to working with all the people to make football better,” said Keeney.
