Destiny in their hands

Following the narrow last minute 2-1 defeat to New Caledonia on Saturday, the Papua New Guinean women’s soccer team needs a win against the Solomon Islands on Monday to qualify for the semi finals of the Pacific Games in Noumea and retain the chance to defend the title of champions.

Currently running second in their pool with six points from their three games, the ladies take on the Solomon Islands tomorrow.

New Caledonia has now qualified for the semi finals and 2nd spot is now between basically Tahiti and PNG.
A win for PNG against the Solomon’s who are virtually out of contention barring a miracle, will see them qualify and a place in the semi finals.

“Taking chances will be critical” according the coach Steven Mune. “As defending champions the pressure is now to move onto the next stage.”

Once again goal difference may well prove crucial; however the destiny of the team is in their hands.
PNG will know what they have to do prior to the game with the American Samoa/Tahiti match being played in the morning.
