PNG Football Association is excited to be associated with “Just Play”, an OFC initiated grassroots programme targeting 6-12 year old children in primary schools. The programme will be launched Friday 25th March at the PNG Education Institute. More than 200 students will participate and demonstrate their skills to invited guests.
“Just Play” has been a success in Tonga, Vanuatu and Solomon Islands. PNGFA and OFC are using football as a tool to tackle social issues such as malnutrition, drug abuse, child neglect, HIV Aids and gender equality. The objectives are to promote good citizenship and social responsibility. The programme involves children in football in their schools, supervised by volunteer teachers.
Twenty volunteer teachers will attend a workshop on 23 – 24 March at the Sir John Guise Stadium to learn organisation skills for the programme. Didier Chambaron, OFC Technical Coordinator will be attending to assess the effectiveness of the workshop.
With sponsorship from AusAID, the programme will be piloted in 10 primary schools in NCD before rolling out to other provinces. The pilot schools selected by NCD Education Department are Ted Diro, Taurama, Wardstrip, Gerehu, Evedahana, St Theresa, Badili, Waigani, Hohola Demonstration, Coronation and Hagara.
