THE Lae City Dwellers Football Club on Tuesday received a cheque for K50, 000 from the Papua New Guinea Football Association to help them during their trip for the Oceania Football Confederation Champions League preparations and competition.
PNGFA acting president and senior vice president John Wesley Gonjuan handed over the dummy cheque to Lae City Dwellers Football Club president Ronald Ram at the Sir Ignatius Kilage Staduim in Lae during the team’s training session.
Ram thanked PNG Football Association and said the support from the mother body would motivate the team and challenged the players to perform well and make PNG proud.
“This is our second year to the Champion’s League and we want to go a step further. To do well means to qualify for the semi-finals and winning this championship.”
Dwellers head coach Peter Gunemba said the team would feature two overseas-based players,
New Zealand U-20 strike George Debenham is one of the two overseas players, who have been drafted into the Dwellers 22-man squad for their OFC Champions League campaign. The other is former Dwellers striker Raymond Gunemba, who plies his trade, plays with Hamilton Wanderers in the New Zealand competition.
Dwellers will leave today to Fiji for two friendly matches before heading up to New Zealand to kick-off their Group C pool matches on the 11 March.
