Lae is set to host the Besta FA Cup finals from November 02-04 with six regional winners battling it out for the men’s title while the women’s equivalent, involving four teams.
The official draw for the men’s and women’s event kicked off proceedings at PNGFA office in Port Moresby by PNGFA general secretary Dimirit Mileng last week.
As for the women’s – Kimbe, Morobe Football Association (MFA), Port Moresby Soccer Association (PMSA) and Simbu were drawn out in positions one to four respectively.
With the kick-off on Thursday 02nd November, the first match will see the host MFA take on Kimbe – while 2015 Besta FA Cup winner PMSA will square off against Simbu.
The round-robin group stage will be followed by a straight final, with the eventual winner will be crown the queen of 2017 Besta FA Cup.
While the draw for the men’s tournament, Port Moresby Soccer Association and Morobe Football Association were the number one seeds and drawn into Group A and B respectively.
Port Moresby Soccer Association were joined by Talasea and Madang which rounded out Group A.
Simbu the Highlands winner were drawn along with Southern Region runner-up Hoods Soccer Association in Group B headed by Morobe Football Association.
The top two teams from each group will go through to the semi-finals followed by a winner-takes-all final to conclude the prestigious event. All matches will be played at PNGFA Academy, 11 Mile.
