Job well done, Papua New Guinea

FIFA  has commended Papua New Guinea for a job well done during the staging of the recent Women’s U-20 World Cup in Port Moresby.

PNG Football Association president David Chung relayed the positive news from FIFA president Gianni Infantino. This was during his attendance at the FIFA Club World Cup match between Real Madrid and Club America at Yokohama Stadium in Japan last week Thursday.

Chung said: “The FIFA president, FIFA head of competitions and staff, plus the head of delegation, have congratulated us.

“I am very happy and we all should be happy because they have never received such warm hospitality and support throughout the tournament.

“Japan even played our World Cup song and video of the Japan team visiting our Fan Zone during half-time,” he added.

Chung said all the stakeholders, from the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, residents of Port Moresby, volunteers, Minister for Sport, NCD Governor, the police, the army, APEC security team, FIFA LOC staff, Telikom, PNG Power, Air Niugini, PNGFA staff, media and expatriates residing in PNG, for successfully assisting in hosting the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

“It has won admiration from all the teams participating as a memorable tournament, especially the warm hospitality by the city residents who provided support and welcome for all countries from the airport to the match day,” Chung stated.

“PNG has now proven the critics wrong.

“As in the beginning, lots of people were worried and skeptical we were not able to play host for many reasons like security, medical grounds, facilities, communications and our ability to manage.

“Today, our people have proven them wrong and those bad criticisms have turned to positive comments.

“For that, I salute you all and say thank you to all those who played an instrumental part in successfully hosting this tournament,” Chung added.
