The Kimbe Soccer Association’s men’s and women’s team triumphed over other centres as the New Guinea Islands Besta FA Cup champions and will represent the region for finals in Lae in September.
Bougainville men who raised their provincial flag since the day one of tournament met their fate going down to Kimbe 1-0 in the grand final on Sunday.
Despite the loss, Bougainville coach Freddie Piriri praised his young guns for a good performance against the talented Kimbe side.
“The pressure is on our side but all credit to the boys to perform to their best and fight till the end without giving up,” Piriri said.
West New Britain Governor Sasindra Mutuvel who were present to officially kicking off the two grand final match were impress with the performance of the four finalist and thank Kimbe Soccer Association for inviting him to officiate at the grand final.
In the women’s grand final, Kimbe upset NBPOL Kumbango 1-0 in the extra time after locked nil-all at full time.
Women’s top goal scorer and fair play award went to KSA’s Ramona Padio and Cristo Mato respectively while Mosina Kenneth from AROB 1 received the men’s player of the tournament.
DenDen Daniel from Kimbe 1 received the men’s golden boot award while the referee of the tournament went to Michael Saun from Kimbe Soccer Association.
Kimbe men will now join Momase leg winners, Almami with runner-up Morobe Football Association and Southern leg winners, Hoods and runner-up Kamali for the Besta FA Cup finals to be held in Lae in September.
In the women division, Kimbe and Port Moresby Soccer Association booked a spot to travel to the Morobe capital to meet Morobe Football Association.
The remaining Besta FA Cup qualifier yet to be played is the Highlands leg to be held in Kundiawa starting today.
