Mungkas put in a foot closer to win the Port Moresby Soccer Association Men’s Premier League title after a 3-0 win over Maclaren in front a vocal crowd on Monday afternoon.
The David Passam coached-side made a strong statement when Daniel Vetali scored in the 32nd minute of play following a scramble defence in the goal mouth.
Maclaren attempted to hit back just as quickly, forcing a save from goalkeeper Junior Kaprangi, but Mungkas were much more threatening with the speed of their counter attacks and build-up from the midfield putting their opponents on the back foot.
Mungkas continued to apply pressure as they came back from the break and had a couple of early opportunities just go astray. Maclaren also came out determined to try and pull themselves back into contention and they came close with a chance to Leka Yamo forcing Kaprangi into action.
Despite their best efforts, Maclaren couldn’t hold on as Mungkas captain Abel Redenut got on the score sheet for Mungkas’ second before Vetali scored his double in the 76th minute when he leapt high at the post to connect a fumble from Denzel Apelis.
With reigning champions Mungkas comfortably sit atop of the table from the rest of the teams competing in the 2018 Port Moresby Soccer Association Men’s Premier League competition, the battle for second, third and fourth spot is on.
Despite conceding 5 goals against them, Mungkas have amassed 32 goals and have yet to lose a game since the start of the competition.
