The Bisini Football Park came alive during the long Easter weekend when Port Moresby Soccer Association host its 2018 Easter challenge.
Mungkas team one for men’s division and Mungkas women are the champions of the 2018 PMSA Easter Challenge.
In the men’s final, the team from the Autonomous Region of Bougainville walked away with the 2018 PMSA Easter Challenge trophy after a hard fought battle against PS Ruts.
It never came easy for the Mungkas boys as the spectators watched anxiously as both sides were locked at 1-1 after 14 minutes of the normal time forcing the game into extra 6 minutes.
It was in the last three minutes of extra 6 minutes that Mungkas scored the winner to lead 2-1 and claim the title.
However, the young outfit from PS Ruts dominated play at first and second halves but the Mungkas fought back vigorously and it paid off as they pushed the finals minutes into extra time.
In the women’s final, Mungkas women beat University 2-1in the penalty shoot-out to reign the 2018 PMSA Easter Challenge champion in the women’s division.
PMSA President John Wesley Gonjuan thank all the participating teams for making the 2018 PMSA Easter Challenge a success especially the new teams in the tournament including 8 mile United and Kaukana United.
He said the PMSA Easter Challenge is faring well with 40 teams taking part this year with 32 men’s team and eight women’s team.
“The three-day competition have been running smoothly with no problems.”
Meanwhile, he also announced that the season proper will kick-off on April 21 to give time for clubs to organise and prepare well for this much-awaited full competition.
