The NGI Regional women select-side is preparing well for the upcoming PNGFA Women’s League which set to start early next month on the 1-4 November in Lae.
NGI women’s soccer coach Michael Waname has laid down a strong challenge to the other three women regional teams that will be taking part in the code.
Waname and his 18-member squad had been in training at PNGFA Technical Centre in Kimbe straight after the Besta FA Cup finals in Lae in September.
He is confident the team will do well during the tournament.
“The bulk of the team is made up of school girls who are 17 years old,” the coach said.
“We’ve picked players who had shown personal football talent during our NGI Regional Besta FA Cup qualifiers here in Kimbe.”
He said the NGI-side is made up of a mixture of youth and experience players from Kimbe Soccer Association, New Britain Palm Oil Soccer Association, Manus and Bougainville.
“We have three experienced players who are members of the PNG U20 women’s team during the 2016 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup, including a senior player.” They are Ramona Padio, Georgina Bakani, Nicollette Ageva and senior player Edith Wibeawa to control our midfield.
Waname said they had prepared well for the game and would not take any opportunity for granted.
