PORT MORESBY Soccer Association (PMSA) is ready to commence its 2017 proper season competition on the weekend at the Bisini Soccer Grounds.
The competition starts on Saturday (13 May) and will run for 29 week, with the grand-finals to be played in early November.
Thirty-six teams will participate in the competition, but only 13 clubs are confirmed to start round one on Saturday.
PMSA competition officer Robert Sabadi said all premier clubs that did not submit their information forms for U19 and women’s will be dropped to minor divisions.
“The deadline for the forms was closed on Wednesday (May 10), but we will still continue to collect them after the first round games,” Sabadi added.
“This includes all players and club registration fees and must be met before round two matches,” he said.
Sabadi said clubs are to make their way to the field early, with the first matches to start at 12pm while the early morning matches from 9am-11am to be played on Sunday.
Premier division for men will feature Mungkas which will take on University FC. Mungkas are the champions from the pre-season competition and will see University put them to the test, while Yamaros will meet PS Rutz in the main match on Sunday.
Women matches will feature most U20 national players in the Mungkas, Yamaros and University side in the likes of Gloria Laeli, Yvonne Gabong, Joy Tsuga and Margaret Joseph, which will be a boost for up-and-coming female footballers.
“Clubs that don’t have their names on the draws will see to their round one matches next week,” Sabadi added.
