Papua New Guinea Football Association Senior Vice President John Wesley Gonjuan yesterday presented a cheque of K2000 and four cartons of one world soccer balls to the Chairman of NCDC Call Centre, Kila Dick to support the victims of the fire that engulfed 18 homes in Hanuabada two weeks ago.
Also in attendance at the handover were PNGFA General Secretary Dimirit Mileng and PNGFA Just Play Operations Manager Micah Kaneng.
“We’re presenting this K2000 cheque, along with four cartons of balls, which we hope in some small way can offer some relief to those affected,” Gonjuan said.
“The people of Hanuabada are passionate and knowledgeable about sports and we are pleased to contribute to the relief effort and hope the assistance will be of great benefit to the people of Hanuabada, especially children as they look to recover from this tragedy.”
“It is not just in the area of football that we are looking to build relationships and make a positive difference,” Gonjuan says. “We are also looking to enrich the lives of kids in our communities and gestures like this go a long way towards doing that.”
Chairman of NCDC Call Centre Kila Dick is delighted to have received the donation and says the K2000 will go a long way in terms of rebuilding process for the families that are affected.
“Sports play a significant role in establishing a change in the mindset of children and also with this donation of soccer balls I’m sure will go a long way for the children because they are the most affected ones,” says Dick.
The balls are part of the ‘Just Play’ programme that promotes physical activity for kids aged six to 13 and encourages community involvement.
