Another historic moment is set to take place in the youth game this month during the school holiday when the PNGFA Under 17 Youth Festival kicks off for the first time.
The revived competition will see country’s top youth players in both boys and girls showcase their potential.
The revived youth festival is set to get going on June 27-30 in the Northern Conference which will be hosted at PNGA Academy in Lae. The Northern Conference consists of Momase and the Highlands region.
Teams interested to take part are ask to call LOC chairman Edris Kumbruwah on mobile number 76110795 or festival coordinator Shem Farrock on mobile number 74495804.
In the Southern Conference the festival will be held in Port Moresby at Bisini Soccer Oval from July 4-7 and interested teams willing to take part can call LOC chairman Joseph Ealedona on mobile number 74591090.
PNGFA competition manager Simon Koima said the Youth Festival is also open to all schools for both secondary and primary schools, with the players participating must be 17 years old and below.
Koima stressed that the players must be born between 31/12/2001 – 31/12/2018.
“This is developing into a landmark year for youth football in Papua New Guinea and it’s fantastic to give opportunity to our youth and improved youth competition for the country in both gender,” says Koima.
This is a big step for youth football and one we wouldn’t have achieved without the strong support of our members associations and associate members.”
“These are hugely exciting times for football development in the country and for the development of future stars the Youth Festival will have a key role to play in furthering this growth of football in the country,” Koima says.
Papua New Guinea has an opportunity to make its mark on the OFC Youth Champions over the coming months with PNG to embark on their campaign at the OFC U-19 Men’s Championship in Tahiti in August and the OFC U-16 Men’s Championship in Solomon Island in September.
