THE Port Moresby Soccer Association competition grand final is expected to be a thriller when favourites and the minor premiers Mungkas FC take on University at the Bisini Soccer grounds tomorrow (Saturday).
Port Moresby Soccer Association (PMSA) President John Wesley Gunjuan said both teams were expected to display a high standard of football.
University captain Sammy Campbell said his team should give the minor premiers a run for their money. The PNG international said his players have been training well and are prepared for the game.
With the favour on the Bougainville team, University too are ready for a good challenge against Mungkas.
University coach Reginald Davani said apart from Campbell, the team would be relying on Aneil Passam, Greg Togubai, Philip Steven, John Ray, Gabby Yanum and goalkeeper Albert Mesulam.
Davani said this was their chance of winning the final after a long while having a good combination of youth (for pace) and experience (for variation).
While Mungkas will be relying on their midfielder Edwin Taberia and Basil Jofari to take control of the match. Both players have played inspirational roles leading the club into the finals.
In the women’s final, Gurias will be counting on their experience as their mainstay to beat Mungkas in the grand final.
The most experienced player and captain Miriam Lanta predicted a good game against Mungkas.
Mungkas captain Claire Tsuga said her team beat Gurias in the semi-final but looking to fight even harder to win the grand final.
“The win against Gurias in the semi-final really motivated the team to stay focused and play their game on Saturday. There will be no fancy stuff on the day,” she added.
