The Southern Region Besta FA Cup qualifying tournament is being deferred from his weekend to next week.
The tournament will now be staged from September 21-24 and will be hosted by Port Moresby Soccer Association (PMSA) at the Bisini Football Grounds.
Local Organising Committee chairman Joseph Ealedona said the PMSA executive endorsed the extension and was granted by the Besta Cup coordinator Simon Koima.
“This should give more time for intending participants to better organise themselves to attend this tournament.
“So that we find the Southern Region representatives to take part in the National Besta FA Cup scheduled for October in Lae.”
Ealedona said this is an important tournament for the PNGFA and football in the country as all efforts must be made to make this the much sought after National Cup.
“Therefore the regional qualifying rounds must also be made a quality and representative tournament and therefore we at the PMSA want to see that we begin this strengthening process,” he added.
Ealedona urged football playing communities who have an organised competition in the Southern region, but are not registered with the PNGFA to take this opportunity to benefit from the PNGFA programs by taking part and thus fully registering with the national body.
